Pilgrim Monument History Lesson

It has long been believed and stated in history books that the Pilgrims first landed in Plymouth Massachusetts, however history may have left out a stop in Provincetown.  Pilgrim Monument was built to commemorate the Pilgrim's landing in Provincetown and the signing of the Mayflower Compact there. The tower is impressive and can actually be seen from here in Marshfield on clear days. The distance as the crow flies being only 17 miles. Driving distance, 97 miles. Lots of other things getting in the way of my painting including a few wipers. I just realized that I never posted this one done a few weeks ago. Jackpot!

Days Cottages

One of my favorite subjects is Days Cottages in Truro, Massachusetts. The cottages, all named after flowers were built by the Grandfather of the current owner and are famous. I remember staying here in the 70's and being totally enchanted with the place. Since then, I've had several blissful painting trips with my  girlfriends. In fact, I was here with two of the girls on Sept 11th 2001 and because there is no TV or radio, was unaware of the events of that morning until about 11:30 AM. Never saw any of the TV footage until I returned home on the 15th. Just as well. This drawing is from a photo I took and cropped to fit the square format. Painting to follow.

Practicing Avoidance

I swore I'd have a bunch of stuff in the trunk by this evening but I just couldn't put the studio away until I painted something. This 12"x12" panel has been waiting for me for to get started, although I've had the rough drawing on there for too long to mention. Not quite finished but I'm kinda liking it. The Winter Studio is officially closed as of tonight.
