One of the favorite places to fish, stroll and people watch is the 2000 foot long pier in the heart of Naples. This painting is going to the Art Boutique, my gallery at Tin City. I have new cards and soon will have new giclees of this and other local scenes. Be sure to visit.

Cleaning the Catch on Naples Pier

"Cleaning the Catch" 18x24 oil on canvas
Our hot summer rolls on here by the sea. I wish I could say that I'm accomplishing lots of things, but mostly I'm just getting a few home  and yard improvements taken care of and reading on the beach or in my air conditioned rooms.
This 18"x24" scene of people cleaning fish on Naples Pier is on stretched canvas and was painted for the Faculty show at Von Liebig Art Center in Naples. It goes up October 20th through November 24th. Preview party is Friday night, October 19th.

Naples Pier Sunset

Naples Pier Sunset
18x24 oil on canvas

SOLD
This is an 18x24 canvas for my Gallery at Tin City. I blocked it in yesterday and finished it today.
I also want to share some tips about the brushes I'm using which are Silver Bristlons with very crisp synthetic bristles that are excellent for the type of careful brushwork I like to do. After rinsing them of paint in Gamsol and wiping them dry, I wash them with Murphy's Oil Soap. Using a ceramic or glass bowl I mash the bristles gently against the bowl which has a capful of MOS in it. You will be shocked at how long it takes to rinse the brushes completely of paint. Use only cold or tepid water and keep changing the soap and rinsing until the brushes are completely free of stain when blotted with a paper towel. I then dip them into brush shaper (by Houston Arts) and shape them so the edges are chiseled. If some of them need it, I make a little splint out of paper and wrap the tips lightly and tape them. Voila! They last quite well with the pampering I give them.

Sanibel Lighthouse

Sanibel Lighthouse

Sanibel is a beautiful island but there's not much to see except this fabulous Lighthouse and of course, beautiful beaches which we also have here in Naples. My favorite part of the painting is the negative space in the struts of the tower. I love these kinds of structures and have many photos of water towers from our travels which I will turn into paintings. There's one in SC right next to the Piggly Wiggly that I've seen the sun rise upon, more than once. Dramatic. I'm working on some more Florida paintings for the Art Boutique at Tin City. Be sure to stop in and see the work there if you are in Naples.
Happy Valentine's Day to all you friends and lovers. Wolfie and Abba gave 'Daddy' and I some cookies which I can't eat and some semi sweet chocolate which I can and did eat ;)

Funky Monday

I've been funky this weekend. Everyone is going home and I'm feeling the pull of my studio and my 'homies'. Hubby doesn't want to leave early but we've been here for three months and I have work to do. Sometimes you just have to go to the beach and sit there until the sun drops into the Gulf of Mexico. Naples is beautiful. You really can't beat that. I came home refreshed.
