Naples Pier Sunset

Naples Pier Sunset
 6x6 oil on gesso board

One of the great beauties of the Florida peninsula, is the West Coast sunset.  This of course, is the beautiful Naples pier, some 2000 feet long, and always busy with strollers, photographers and sunset seers. Come here early in the morning and you'll see birds galore and early morning anglers. I had to mute the bright colors in this to enhance the oranges of the sunset. We are enjoying beautiful weather here this winter.

Funky Monday

I've been funky this weekend. Everyone is going home and I'm feeling the pull of my studio and my 'homies'. Hubby doesn't want to leave early but we've been here for three months and I have work to do. Sometimes you just have to go to the beach and sit there until the sun drops into the Gulf of Mexico. Naples is beautiful. You really can't beat that. I came home refreshed.

Naples Pier Series

Naples Pier
6x6 oil on canvas

One thing that is crucial in painting this pier is to create a foreground. Because it is a very long, linear subject, it needs points of interest and perspective to create a good composition.

Copper Caddy

One day I wandered into TJ Maxx and found 3 copper pitchers which I knew I didn't need but had to have. Props, of course. This one's been sitting here for weeks holding watercolor brushes and a palette knife and I thought it was time to paint it.
This afternoon I went to the beach with the intention of painting which didn't happen. It was again,  windy and brisk but, hey, it's still Florida and I enjoyed reading and taking photos of the kite surfers.
