Wendell April 5 1996-October 25 2010
And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.
Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.
But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.
Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and
ever.
Wendell and his baby picture
Our 14 year old Wendell recently become ill and there was no hope for recovery.
We had to let him go. Our home was filled with joy, amusement, and affection by the huge personality of this wonderful being.
He was the love of our lives.

Thank you, Mary for this wonderful poem and I'm very sorry for the loss of your lovely Wendell. I'm cuddling my cats even closer tonight.
I am so sorry to hear this news. I remember Wendell choosing the winners, and the painting you did of him that you use as your icon is my very favorite of all your paintings.
Oh, Mary, I'm so very sorry.
Perhaps he's been greeted with a nuzzle from Nizzy.
Peace to you,
Dar
What a wonderful poem. I am so sorry to hear about Wendell and know you were worried about him. Pets enrich oir lives more than we know and you will have many happy memories.
Tears in my eyes, an ache in my heart ... (((hugs))))... Wendell....
I love your poem, Mary and I hope those thoughts will comfort you. So sorry, losing a beloved pet is really hard! He surely was a beautiful cat.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved friend, Mary - what a handsome fellow and what a beautiful poem.
Oh, Mary I'm so sorry for your loss. I know Wendell was well loved and he will be ever so fondly remembered, what a beautiful poem... Hang in there.
Mary I am so so sorry. I see your proud man every day on my fridge on the magnet with your painting of him. I know how much you loved him and this brought tears to my eyes. Perhaps he can visit with my Angel girl. I lost her almost three years ago, and I still miss her. She was 18....
Mary,
Beautiful pictures of a most beautiful animal. Even with our pets we are only blessed with them for a short period of time. I hope you find comfort now in all the wonderful memories you have of him.
Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. I know nothing can replace the emptiness, but know you have lots of friends around the world thinking of you right now. We love you!
Oh, no...I am so sorry, so very sorry. And here I was, coming out of grief from losing a little kitten, who just died the same day as your Wendell, and saw this...
Perhaps your darling will help lead my little departed darling?
And then they'll both be together with my 14-yr.old departed love, Halfie, who left us last year.
Many hugs.

Such a poignant poem. Mr. Wendell certainly put forth a noble and courageous fight; as have the two of you. Our hearts go out to you for having lost such a great love.
Oh Mary...we knew this day was coming, but that doesn't make us any more prepared for the emptiness Wendell's passing leaves, does it?
That poem is my favorite of the many out there, as it truly describes how a loved cat feels towards the ones who hold them close in their hearts.
May time help heal you, and the happy memories come to mind daily and the sadness fade...
what a beautiful cat mary
so sorry for your loss
Oh, I'm sorry... he is handsome... : (
Oh no, Mary, More sadness, I am just now catching up with my emails, after being out of town. I just saw this beautiful post. What a sweet poem, and gorgeous photos of handsome Wendell, what a beauty. May Wendell rest in peace, in kitty heaven. He will live on, in your hearts, forever!
My heart goes out to you Mary. We just lost our 17 yr. old kitty a few weeks ago. So sad to come home and her not be here, I know I will see her again one day though and you will see your sweet cat too. Hugs
Wendell looked to be a very regal cat. Sorry for your loss. Pets are family and losing one is very difficult.
so sorry to hear about Wendell.
I am very sorry to hear about Wendell, it is heartbreaking to lose a dear friend, such emptiness in their absence. I wish you peace in knowing you gave him a life of health and companionship.
I hope you have a great experience working with the horses and handicapped children, I have had a big interest in the animal assisted therapy with large and small animals, something about the animals is so healing...how wonderful of you to be a part of it.
Im so sorry to read your sad news. I know how devastating it is to lose a pet. I have lost several cats over the years and I still miss each one. Lots of Love X
Thank you all so much for sharing all these kind comments with me.
Wendell was my once in a lifetime cat and my dearest soul mate.
I'll have other cats for sure but he was the man. I miss him every minute and he shows up in my dreams.
Dearest Boy, I love and miss your soft sweetness.
I am so sorry to learn about your loss. Losing our fur loved ones is a terrible blow. Certain cats, like Wendell, reach into our hearts and find and place they will never leave. Wendell lives on there.Your poem is beautiful. Blessings.
Wendell you were such a grand and lovely cat, a true good'un. Your Mum won't ever forget you. We are sorry you had to leave. Big purrs and we hope you bathe in warm sunpuddles forever
