Banyan Tree #1 6x8

I'm posting this as the finish, though after studying it while writing my post, I think the left side of the painting needs just a few small strikes of sunlight into that neutral mid tone to enhance the form of the trunk. I'll let it sit a while and it will tell me what it needs. We're going back to the same location this Thursday and I plan to stay with this subject. It's a good lesson in seeing the big picture in terms of design. This is just a small section of the trunk system of this massive Banyan tree. It happens that while I've been working this evening I listened to a inspirational PBS feature on Ansel Adams who was a fantastic artist with a camera.

I like the watercolor the best and will bring it with me on site Thursday as a value study.

I especially like the vibrancy of your colors. The violet and yellow against the greens and the blues is fantastic! Have fun for me when you go back!

Hi Mary,

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit me at my blog and for reading so many of my posts. I truly appreciate the time and the comments.

I've been doing this blogging thing for about a year now and have come in contact with SO MANY different types of people. The interesting thing is that I was a painting major in college, don't do that many "painterly type" paintings any more, so I'm so glad to run into some very talented painters.....for a change. It's great to see what some painters are up to. It's truly inspiring.

Please come again. I sometimes post some drawings and paintings.

Hi Mary! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I love the banyon, I think they are such cool trees and you did a great job painting it. Your painting brought up some nice memories I loved climbing them when I was a child.

Hi Mary!
Very interesting painting...creative viewpoint! Maybe I didn't look down far enough...are you in Hawaii? Or are there banyan trees in Florida?
You always come up with something new...good job!

I really do admire your 'stick-to-it-ness'! This is beautiful as it is, but will be awesome with those few changes. Can't wait to see it in person!
