I am excited to be teaching my "Expressive Brushwork" Workshop at North River Arts Society, this Saturday. 

As seen in these examples, I limit and vary my brushstrokes so as to keep them fresh. We will focus on edges and transitions practicing with still life items.

This one day workshop will take place from 9:30 - 3:30 with a break for lunch. 

All levels welcome! NO pressure.

California Palm

This fabulous scene from the mountains of California was painted from a photo by one of my blogger friends, Shelley Smart who kindly allowed me to use it as reference. Shelley is originally a Maine girl who resides on the West Coast and paints and photographs the beach out there.

I am enthralled by the beauty of the greenery against the snow capped mountains. I rarely do this but I'm posting two photos of this because much of the subtlety is lost in the photos. One is untouched and is warmer and one is Photo Shopped for contrast and it cooler. The actually painting is somewhere in the middle.

Is it White?

White is a serious challenge because, of course, it picks up all the color around it. However, it's rarely ever, straight from the tube, white. I took this painting farther but, it was over worked, so I'm just posting the block in. This is one reason I try to photograph stages of paintings especially if I have a good start. If I veer off, I can sometimes reclaim what I had going. I have a blizzard of white pottery and glass objects that await me, and you.
