Figure Study

10x10 oil on Raymar

Inspired by Kelley's postings from her exciting week spent in Karin Jurick's Hilton Head workshop I worked up this figure study (WIP) of a couple I saw walking at Slide Rock in Sedona last Spring. I plan to add all the highlights and detail that Karin includes in her beautiful figure paintings. I love seeing older couples hand in hand like this. So sweet.  I didn't have much time to work on it before I came up to New Hampshire to visit my little boys. Ryan will be 8 next week. Time flies.

Bear and Badger & Kelley's Show

  Bear and Badger are rescues from Curly Tail Pug Rescue whose Human was their foster dad until he was unable to resist their charms and adopted them. They sometimes stop and visit on their walk  down to the beach and I feed them unhealthy dog biscuits and take pictures of them. 

The painting is a donation to "A Spirited Affair" a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute  which takes place at the Cyclorama in Boston on Friday, September 16th. 

Coincidently, I was at TJ Maxx after dropping off the painting and a sweet woman shopping the racks with me mentioned unselfconsciously that she is a cancer patient and was rating the clothes for their softness or lack thereof. When you have cancer she said, things like heavy seams or scratchy tags (that we all hate) are unbearable on sensitive skin. She remarked that she was determined to keep her sense of humor while enduring the side effects of chemo. Her honesty and courage were touching and again, I realized that any problems I have in my life pale in comparison. Gratitude.

I must post this great photo of Kelley and me last night at her Opening at 'Nest', a little boutique on High Street in Dedham Square. Here we are in front of her fabulous paintings. It was wonderful!

Buoys Club

 

These buoys are hanging on my friend Sue's shed right next to the beach. This is the quintessential 'at the shore' scene. My pal Kelley MacDonald did a fabulous painting of this very shed which appears in the current issue of South West Art on the sixth page in which is an ad for Contemporary Fine Art International. Half of the fun is thinking up titles for each post!

Art y Pico

My Picks: Rob Ibjema's paintings are an exciting mix of abstract design and color that turn out to be cars. Frank Gardner is an American painter living in San Miguel, who shares lots of great info on his blog and his paintings are wonderful. Jennifer Bellinger paints the best lemons anywhere and her beautifully executed still lives, both large and small, are total eye candy. Liza Hirst is from Berlin and paints beautiful street scenes and still life. Jennifer McChristian, a California painter whose dramatic paintings say more with less.
