Happy Halloween
this painting will be sent to bed without any supper and thrown in the trash asap
Our GJWP topic this month is 'Neighbor'. This house is across the street from my studio and always had an elaborate Halloween display but it's been scaled down to just the gravestones.
Sometimes I see a painting and I think to myself, "that should never have made it out of the studio." and this one is a good example. It's pretty bad but sometimes you have to take one for the team.
I spent the day down at Green Harbor painting boats on a cold and cloudy day. It was a struggle to get my drawing correct even though I was using a viewfinder but I ended up with a passable study. The fisherman were abuzz pulling boats and traps out of the water for the winter pressed by a Nor'easter in the forecast for this weekend.

Mary, I love this one! It is a perfect Halloween piece and it is also very suggestive of the northeastern part of our country. Reminds me of the Salem witch trials times...graves in front of homes/churches like this. Don't you usually head to FL by now?
I really love this Mary. I just love New England houses and this is so nice and painterly.
Mary, I agree with the first two commenters. There is nothing wrong with it. Why not give it away? You could have a contest. :) I could win because the code word I have to type in to get this comment posted is 207 and that is my area code here in Maine. It's like a sign! :)
The perfect Halloween painting, Mary! Wonderful brush work and nice colors! Stay safe this weekend...
thank you everyone :)
Even when I was writing my post I knew that others would see it differently.
I appreciate your comments, always, and I hope you enjoyed my humor.
Sometimes my expectations aren't met but they can't all be winners.
Some are just lessons.
You are certainly conveying the autumnal starkness we get here after a windy rainstorm has stripped away the leaves. The graves add to the somber feel. Thanks for posting.
I like the colors and the flattened surface, myself.
I appreciate your posting even paintings that you don't especially like; I try to do the same. As my mother often says, Not every day's a winner!
Sometimes we are our harshest critic! I love your painting and would give anything to have a smidgen of your talent :) --Fran
You may not like this painting, but the palette is great!
