This painting was done as an anniversary gift from Jen to her husband Jason. She wanted a painting of their yellow lab, Sam, swimming in the South River and sent me a photo. I thought that I recognized the dog from last September when I was doing my Painting Safari there. Sure enough, I actually had photos of the couple and their dog which I had taken surreptitiously. So, how to explain the stalker behavior? Well, I just came out with it and she understood about the artistic license thing, Thankfully :DContact me if you'd like to join me on my outdoor painting Safari which I will be starting as soon as the weather cools down.

This ia a really happy looking painting. I love the color.
Very nice brushwork.. what size is it?
Nice painting, Mary. I love all the colors in the marsh grass and the two figures with the dog are soft and lovely.
What a sweet and thoughtful anniversary gift! When I looked at it my eye was immediately drawn to the lab. Nice composition! :D
Great painting, Mary! So you're a stalker now??? :)
Nice chunky strokes of color for the foreground grasses! And you can just feel the dog's joy in running along with his owners!
Funny that you should have photos of them! I have similar photos from our summer vacation, my kids find it creepy when I take pictures of strangers, but I keep seeing potential paintings! This one of yours turned out so... nice, I will have to use it as evidence to defend my photo taking :)
Happy Happy indeed...funny how things just work out...wonderful painting MSW!!
What a great story! And fabulous anniversary gift! Beautiful! XO
Mary,
The colors, textures, and the subject matter together make this a beautiful painting.
Well done.
Michael
I love it too. It oozes life :-)
No painter but I really like your pictures ... Color palette, light, heat and especially intimacy, pleasure to discover "our stuff", the life around us ...
