6x6 oil on gesso board
I'm painting on the smooth boards again because the surface is great for the brushwork I do. I order them unprimed and give them three coats of gesso before I use them. I always like painting wet sand. There is so much color in the reflections and I love to play with the complimentary color harmony. Fun!
This is my painting for the 'Beach Time' challenge at Girls Just Wanna Paint. This one gull was aggressively stalking the others and snatching things unseen, out of their beaks.

Really LOVE this one Mary. A wonderful composition and you can feel the light.
love those wonderful purple-grays and diggin the white underside of the bird on the left and the yellow on the greedy bird! This painting packs a great punch!
Love, love, love this. I've been painting gulls a lot, too - it must be the air! The colors here are unique to you - just perfect!
Beautiful painting that made me smile......lovely!
The colors are fantastic especially the sand reflections. Gotta love those gulls and your painting.
Deux beaux oiseaux... Vos touches de couleurs sont merveilleuses. Un magnifique panache ! J'aime aussi le travail des reflets dans l'eau... Un véritable bonheur que votre peinture.
Gros bisous
I agree that this is a gorgeous composition and your reflections in the sand so beautiful!
It's a fun painting. Love the colors and the subject. Birds are so fun to watch and there's always an Alpha that controls the rest.
Love, love, love your colors (as always!)! And the title cracks me up! :-)
OMG, Mary!!! This painting is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the colors, their intensity and your brush work. You must paint more on this surface; it loves what you do.
What a lively painting--you really captured the activity of these shore birds. Love the sand reflections.

I just love what you're doing with color, especially on this and on the flower paintings...
Thanks for your blog visit yesterday and for thinking of me. Things continue to be very tough, and my (cliché) mantra is just to try to survive one day at a time. Thank god for the lovely animolecules surrounding me, or I don't think I'd even get out of bed.
