Red Rhody 12x12 SOLD
This red is my absolute favorite color, of the great variety, that rhododendron bushes come in. I used an experimental palette here, just to see what would happen, including Cerulean blue, Permenant Rose, Alizarin, Thalo Violet (grumbacher) Raw Sienna, Cad Yellow Med & Light.

Wow Mary, this one is drop-dead gorgeous! This palette really works, and the brushstrokes ... wonderful painting!
Hi Mary,
Thanks for your comment about my comments on Frank's blog.
: )
And, thanks for stopping by my odd blog, which is obviously dormant these days.
I'm obviously not a painter, and I started that blog, not knowing all I needed was a google account, in order to comment on people's blogs who don't allow anonymous commenters. Then, serendipitously, I started what turned out to be a fairly amazing Christmas music playlist on Playlist.com - but then, after Christmas, Frank and most of my regular blogging buddies quit blogging for awhile, and the point of making playlists kind of went dormant along with them. So, I haven't even visited my blog in months. But, thanks for stopping by. I'll start a new playlist just for you, if you'd like!
: )
I like this painting of yours, here...yes, that red!!! So alive!
That colorbush against that wall...not likely intended to be symbolic, but it is for me, anyway. A bush of glorious color and fragrance can push its life through even if it's up against a wall and hemmed in by a fence. I'm going to go with that in mind through the rest of my day!!!
Thanks!!!

Hi Mary - I really love this painting I'm going to call you right now about it. Love Auntie
Jeannie & I were just talking about 'odd' palettes, and I would classify this palette as one of them. But, like we were saying - you can get some outstanding results, beautiful paintings, from outside the basic cad yellow, cad red light, ultramarine and alizarin. You nailed this one, and .... did Auntie get it? Good for HER!
Now I wish I painted my Rhodies while they were out...but I must admit...love that red!
I love the pink in this Mary! How wonderful!
Nice!!!
jealous of auntie.
Beautiful, gorgeous colours and feel just say Summer. Lindax
whoa!! scrumptious reds here! I know what you mean.some times you gotta do what you gotta do to get this variety- one ole Aliz. Crimson just won't get it....another fun one to have for those great summer blooms is Quinacridone Violiet. hmm, I've gotta find a tube of Thalo Violet & give it a whirl!!
Wow...The color scheme, brushwork, and composition make this a stunning painting.
You have great eye & technique.
And apparently, courage that serves you well...
