I set up on the back deck yesterday afternoon and did a drawing of a pitcher of sunflowers right on the canvas. I managed to come up with a good sketch but the painting, not so much. I just couldn't get the colors right and it got a little muddy so, I wiped it off ;) Anyway, it was a great way to spend a glorious summer day. Our very short summer is slipping away so I'm beaching and reading and gardening here.

Well, I love the drawing. So very often I love my drawings and feel like the painting is 'less than', too. I wonder what we could do (except keep painting....)? Looks so cozy, your set up. Perfect for a summer day.

Is your summer really short? I enjoyed seeing your deck from this angle. Looks like a great place to paint.
I love sunflowers. Love your sketch. How to you wipe the paint off? Is it easy to do? Doesn't it leave a dirty or a messy canvas, paper (or whatever it is that you paint on)? Curious.

our summer is way short too:(
Fabulous sketch, I know how that goes. Sometimes my sketch is just ok and I do better painting, it's sure a challenge. Lots of times my painting is fine but boring, not great light in it. That's my struggle.
Your sketches are very nice, Mary, and stand up on their own - the draftsmanship required for the bridge sketch is mind-boggling.
Enjoy your time "beaching, reading, and gardening" You are "filling the well" for future days of art.
