Cherries Jubilee 3x5

I wanted to call this post, the ones that get away. Instead of keeping it simple (sound familiar?) I added the glass bowl to the setup. Usually I find glass fun to paint and fairly 'easy' but hanging the bowl off the edge like I did gave me problems getting the elipses right. I learned long ago that the paintings speak to others differently than they do to me. I have expectations, which is this case were not met. Doesn't mean someone else won't like it.

I like the free cherries to the left contrasted to the confined group to the right. Tension is noticable to me and I like the elipse and the hard diagonal. Feels edgy but I like it.

Hi Mary,

I also thank you for your comments. The glass bowl works for me, I love the highlights on it and the cherries. Very vibrant!

You did a great job with the glass bowl, Mar, and the composition is lively and interesting! I like it a lot - and the color really grabs you!

Mary, I really like the little splashes of color around the rim of the bowl.

I like being able to see the texture.....

Hi Mary, I like it, I like the red cherries with the green background. I know what you mean about elipses, I just completed a painting with a cup, plate and a tea pot. It's not perfect but I learn with every one. Barb

this is quite lovely. I like the color combination of the bright cherry red and the almost fluro green; it makes that cherry red really pop; the rest of the painting - very subtle. One has no choice but to look and not look away. Excellent.

Hello,
I saw your comment on my blog, so I thought I'd drop in. Your paintings are simply beautiful. I love the one titled 'Yellow Mug' -- I have one for my morning cup of tea. ciao. The Lady

Ooh those darn elipses can be so challenging! My beginning students always have trouble with them and there are times when I have fits with them too. I find them esp. difficult when they are cropped.

This is a fine painting; well done!
