NRAS Roz Farbush Memorial Award for Color

MSW at North River Arts Preview Party
with Mary Curran, NRAS Festival Committee

I am surprised and so very pleased to be awarded the Roz Farbush Memorial Prize for Color at the North River Arts annual Festival of the Arts!
Roz was an icon in our artistic community, known for her  bold and colorful paintings. I was fortunate to make her acquaintance through two of my "besties", Kelley MacDonald and Paula Villanova, who invited me to be part of a girlfriend painting outing, which became known as "the Jeep Trip", to Provincetown and continues to this day.
I confess that we trespassed to paint Edward Hopper's house in Truro and I probably could not find it again but, it was one of our great adventures!
Thank you Roz, I'm sure you had a hand in this.

Stepping Out

"Snowy Egret"
6x6 WC
SOLD
I painted this little watercolor on a 6x6 block that I just couldn't resist buying. The paper is very smooth and slick with sizing but I like how I can move the paint around on it. The washes stay wet and the paper doesn't buckle.
A  birdwatcher friend was highly amused when I told him how I reminded myself that this bird is a snowy egret. Snowy egrets have yellow feet and to make that association was to think 'don't eat yellow snow'.  I know, but it worked ;)
Last Sunday I had the most fabulous day out visiting friends and artists at the annual North River Arts Festival. Despite the gloom and doom weather forecast both days ended up sunny and beautiful.
These photos of the Puppet Parade say it all!

The NRAS bathing beauty and her cabana
can you see who's inside?

It took me a while but I figured out
who was underneath this outfit ;)
It was 'Honorable Mention" winner Sally Dean

Fishing on Naples Pier

Fishing on Naples Pier
6x6 watercolor
SOLD
I forgot to photograph this and the previous painting in the cool bamboo frames I put them in for the Art Boutique at Tin City. As a pair they look great in their matching frames and mats. Very tropical.
After 1,600 something miles, Don, Wendell and yours truly are back home in Marshfield on a beautiful Mother's Day. Sunny and crisp. I hadn't remembered how well I'd cleaned the house. It was a lovely surprise ;)

The Raffle Tent

This is a study I have been working on from a very rough block in I did at North River Arts Festival of The Arts event. I need to practice doing crowds. I worked from a PHOTO of the block in and I've cropped my painting to show the best parts of it. Sometimes, as in this case, the details are better than the painting as a whole. Actually, they don't use the pink and white tents anymore, much to the chagrin of those of us who loved them. We have arrived in Naples and are settling in.

Sunflowers in Aqua Glass Pitcher W/C 8x10

My Sunflowers are still robust after a week. I am trimming the stems every other day and using the flower crystals, but really, a week is long for Sunflowers. That being the case, there was only one choice of subject matter today.
