White Spider Mums 12x12

SOLD
Maybe another tweak on this but it's mostly finished. I think a subtle dark stroke beneath the lemons and plums to keep them from floating, This was another of my 'simple' still lives and I went through the valley of "this is not going to happen" before hitting the 'sweet spot' today, going for the finish. There's a mental moment in each painting where the struggle suddenly switches gears and you know you're on the right track. There are things I'd do differently here but over all I reached the goal. I used some great new brushes that Kelley gave me and I can see the difference from my usual bristle flats. Completely changed my edges. This is for Provincetown Art Association and Museum's 12x12 silent auction event which takes place August 1st through September 7th. Stop in if you happen to be visiting beautiful Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Mary,

So great to see your name in my in box on my blog, really good to hear from you, I hope you are well. I was thinking of you on Saturday, I was at the sox game (my good friend won one of the Sox world series rings and was on the field to recieve it) sooo cool, it made for a great day given the sox spanking by the yanks. I am currnetly working on three sox paintings that I'm in no rush to get done so look for them sometime late in the year. I'm painting a Ted Williams portrait, Dustin Pedroia at bat and a fenway panorama that I've been working on for a while. I hope you are well, the work looks great. You take care Mary.

All the best,
Todd

Mary, thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such encouraging comments. Because of that, now I've found you, so I will visit often.
I love the colors you use, and the freedom of use. This is what I'm striving for. Excellent.

I love this one Mary! I love the looseness of composition.. It doesn't seem staged, just natural, like you happened upon it. And the white flowers are amazing!

I second Katie May's comment on the white flowers - they're amazing! On your tombstone: "She never took the easy way out...."
So much for a 'simple' composition!
Good job!

Hi Mary,I love the loose placement of all elements in this still life, no overlap. It works! I think you did an excellent job of describing what I call the "midway blues", that point where I have doubts on how the painting is going. I still feel it but know that it is just one of the many phases a painting goes through and to just work through it. When I get that feeling I know the finish isn't far away.

Hi Mary, I forgot to mention the excellent placement of the lemon in the lower right corner...it stops the eye that follows the strong diagonal table top line from going off the page. Very gutsy!

thank you ALL!
I felt good about the finish here and your comments confirmed it, and I so appreciate that.
JB Thanks for noticing the lemon on the lower right. I added it just for that reason. Thinking composition and structure. It helps to study your beautiful paintings.
'Gutsy' :D you made my day!
