Cloud Study 4x6

Florida might be the sunshine state but it is also the land of the cumulus cloud. This view, looking eastward from my studio toward a golf course, always has a dramatic sky. These three palmettos survived Hurricane Wilma amid a line of trees that was changed into toothpicks by a small tornado that ripped through this swale. I premixed my colors which I find helps me once I get going. I don't have to work through trial and error color mixtures.

Hi Mary, I drifted your way via Julie's blog.
Love your work, especially this painting.Gorgeous periwinkle sky!

We used to vacation each year at Ft. Meyers, and enjoyed visiting Naples so much!
Haven't been in a while, but I yearn for the beach.

Mary, your work has really struck a chord with me lately. I love visiting Florida; it's natural beauty and pace really speaks to me and your work really reflects this. I could look at photographs and it would not be the same. Thanks for seeing these scenes and conveying them on canvas (and of course watercolor paper!)

You've caught the feel of movement in the leaves as well as the clouds. Interesting to see how you've developed this from the watercolours, and the premix on the palette, as well...

Mary, thank you for the nice comment on my blog. I am enjoying browsing through your work here, but keep coming back to this wonderful land-and-sky-scape. I'm not sure if it's wonderful brushwork and color in these clouds, or the whole scene and the feeling it conveys... but I'd love to be there right now! Beautiful!

Beach at 3 PM in a week day?
Now I know why I'm not a painter as good as you!

Great work, but now I'm missing Florida and our winter is just to come!

When I lived in Miami, certain times of the year you could set your watch by those clouds. Beautiful Mary.

Glad to see you trying the pre mix thing Mary. With good results.
Now I gotta get you to get a longer knife for mixing :-)

Geez you've been busy! Pre-mixing is the way to go, I guess. Good idea. This looks Flavidah-ish to me (that's how we say it in RI). You GO girl!
