"Jersey 'Pike" 6x6 oil on panel
Somewhere in New Jersey, I snapped a drive by of this power plant. It was not as easy to paint as I envisioned when I took the photo. I'm shooting through the car window which creates a distortion in color, thus I have to invent. I really love the look of backlit industrial smoke and this is my first painting of the many photos I've taken of the subject. This survived the wipe off stage, barely. Be sure to go over to Slices of Life to see today's paintings for the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Nice take on the pike...we drove over it last week, not my favorite road...
Hi Mary - Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to checking out your 30 in 30. I can't believe it's that time of year again when you head down to Naples. in hindsight it seems like 2012 went by very fast!
Nice painting! If anyone can "invent" color for something it's you. Well done!
thanks, I have to say that the color is a tad off here. A little glare-y.
Great job with not an easy subject to portray. We had a large smokestack off the highway where I lived in MA many years ago and I told my grandchildren it was where clouds were made. I took them all to see the "cloud maker" and they were just so enthralled with the whole idea they had to tell everyone about it. I think that was the last time I was asked to babysit..........:( Just kidding, about the babysitting part, I mean. Drive safely!
I remember traveling by car to Maryland..passing through the N.J.Turnpike and seeing these smokestacks off the highways...you
painted it perfectly, Mary!! Now to see today's paintings for the 30 day challenge!!!
Terrific job!
Oh I do so like this piece, Mary. The silhouetted factory is done so well and the color spot on beautiful!
Talk about commitment! On the road painting- you do it so well Mary!
I can't figure out why I like this so much, but I do.
