Cleaning the Catch on Naples Pier

"Cleaning the Catch" 18x24 oil on canvas
Our hot summer rolls on here by the sea. I wish I could say that I'm accomplishing lots of things, but mostly I'm just getting a few home  and yard improvements taken care of and reading on the beach or in my air conditioned rooms.
This 18"x24" scene of people cleaning fish on Naples Pier is on stretched canvas and was painted for the Faculty show at Von Liebig Art Center in Naples. It goes up October 20th through November 24th. Preview party is Friday night, October 19th.
What are you reading?

Love this! The birds circling and the figures with just enough definition to reveal what they are doing is just brilliant! Love it!

Those birds are a perfect example of controlled decision making done well that just looks so beautiful and free...They all lead you right back in perfectly. Knowing you just a bit:):)I know the thought that went into this piece. Proud of you! And...just finished Sherrie McGraw's book, Language of Drawing! No slacking here:) But you already knew that! XO!

Nice painting Mary! Let's see... I just finished THE BEST OF ME and SAFE HAVEN by Nicholas Sparks, highly recommend both of them! Right now I'm reading THE SEARCH by Nora Roberts and THE LEAN BELLY PRESCRIPTION by Travis Stork, ha ha... Both are great! Enjoy your summer!

One of my favorites yet, Mary! And I can almost feel myself right there walking along the pier and cringing just as I used to do when I'd walk on the pier on Ruston Way in north Tacoma, WA. The sight of the pieces of fish guts, etc., always was a disgusting and queasy sight for me. I always turned my head towards the sea. The gulls are spot on too. They were indeed always about during these times.

One of your all time best paintings Mary! Really! It's got it all! Great composition, color contrast, energy! Love the light on the white hat!
I'm still getting over reading Gone Girl. Can't imagine what I will read next that could top that experience!

I really love this painting, the colors are wonderful.... it's hard to have a design across the canvas like this... but you made it work!

Love the painting! Amazing colors! I'm sending one of my still lifes, but doubt that I'll be able to get down there to see the show. I'm hoping some friends of mine can stop in and check it out.
