Ibises

These beautiful white Ibises are regular morning visitors. Usually there are a dozen or so at a time and they roam slowly along the streets and yards pecking at the ground. I'm trying here, to get a sense of the white birds against the dark marshy background. My husband thinks I should stop but I see some areas of the design that aren't strong enough and the birds need a few more light strokes. In case you wonder, I've been lying around the pool for the past several days. I know I can't really get a tan in Massachusetts so I'd better get one while I can ;)

I like the "suggestion" of the ibises---could you come up here and do some crows?

Mary, you have such a strong start to this one, I really am attracted to the gray blue highlights and shadows. This makes me think of the old classic story, the Scarlet Ibis, did you ever read that one in school?

Love the painting! Have fun hanging by the pool!

Sedona and the Grand Canyon are absolutely breathtaking! Taking a balloon ride must of been incredible!

I see your work just blasting off, girl! These Ibises are wonderful - I agree... just a touch of real light would make it PERFECT. Anyway... go back to the pool. I would.

I particularly like the guy on the left; he has a very elegant movement going on.
To me there's not much value contrast, though, between the birds and their background; if that's what you're going for, I'd contrast it a lot more.

Hello Mary, I'm visiting from Nancy's blog; I see many of my favorite artists follow you, where have I been?? I happen to love this color palette, it's interesting in that the colors are calming, yet very energetic. I'll be back to see more!

Hi Mary. I love these ibises - especially the ones left and right. There's something odd about the middle one. I also love your use of the yellow under everything. Very nice. And I still love the pin cushion you did at the workshop. Wasn't that so much fun!

Thanks everyone for weighing in on this. I'll post the finish tomorrow, for better or worse ;)

Mary, these ibises are looking great. I love the relationship between them. I think I would try darkening the background, or emphasizing the negative space, to make more of a contrast if you'd like the birds to pop more.
Can't wait to get out of Mass and be down in the sun in your neck of the woods soon, on Marco Island.
