The Yellow Caboose WIP

Some of us are reluctant to put up WIP's or works in progress. It's almost a given that one might not succeed in bringing it to completion without overworking or losing the initial magic. On my way past the Fairgrounds I glimpsed this fabulous caboose on display with the late evening sun on it and pulled a U-ey ( U turn in New England parlance) and set up to block this is. By the time I got this far it was getting dark and I had no memory stick in the camera (oops) to take a photo. However, I may be able to work this out with out one since I already have so much information. I'll probably wait for the sun to come out again (this IS New England) and go back in the evening to finish it. Wish me luck!

Thanks Mary, for having the "cojones" (something they say a lot down here in TX. Means you're brave;-) to post your WIP. Other painters, I suspect, are always excited to see into the process of another artist. I know I am, anyway. Plus, it's fun to try, from the few clues, to imagine the artist's vision, what they're shootin' for on this one.
This is a great composition and should turn out to be a quite striking image.

Good luck with the sun! (Although it's so late as I write, you're probably already out there. Oh well, good wishes coming to you as you work, hopefully!)

Being the "touch it, shape it" kind of guy for so many years of sculpture my palettes have normally consisted of monotone patinas and allowing the form to dictate the shadows. But lately bright, vivid colors are standing out to me and demanding my attention or either a mix of darkened colors. That interests me very much because for so long I was merely satisfied with a white plaster or traditional bronze over a form. I must be going thru some sort of color awakening.

I suppose that is why I really liked your painting Flamingo Isle, The Oasis. The colors hold my attention and brings out the "good" in my good and evil world.

Glad to know where I can find you.

Mary - great minds think alike - I just posted something on my blog about an unfinished painting. It feels uncomfortable to me - I "grope" around alot on canvas before I get what I want.

I love seeing works in progress! I think most people do, but like you, I'm reluctant to show them as well.
I can't wait to see how this piece develops!

Thanks for the comment on my blog!

Mary--thanks for the visit to my blog--and I'm happy to reciprocate. I like the loose style and your palette, including the use of random colors. The caboose piece has a lot of potential. Please, please post the finished work. I'll be back, Jack

Yes, you're one brave girl. I like the start, and I know many, many things can happen, good and bad, from this point on!! It's hard when people can't accept or understand that it's not 'finished', you're just giving us a glimpse of what you're working on! And I think this one's going to be good!

It rained for 3 days after I started this and then a 4 day heat wave in which I ended up doing all the planting and gardening I should have done while the weather was cooler.
I did go out in my yard today to paint flowers. I had the air conditioning on so COLD that I actually was out there for quite a while before I broke a sweat. But I was pouring by the time I finished playing with the watercolors. It was close to 100 degrees.
Thanks for all the great comments!
I don't have FOF on this. Just need to get up to the Fairground to get the right light.

What's FOF?

I know all too well how "real life", such as weather for instance, can challenge creative efforts. Just hope for some sun, and opportunity of course, before they move the caboose.

Hot weather makes you paint fast, doesn't it? Maybe it's just me. Forces me to focus. (Plus, the heat loosens up all that arthritic crap, which helps. I guess it is just me ;-D)

Anyway, I'll be checkin' in to see how it goes!

FOF= fear of finishing or
fear of framing
or fear of f'ing it up ;)

ok good luck...hope you don't need it.
this looks very promising and i hope you can keep some of that pink underground showing through.

F the FOF, go finish it! That's what happens when you post a WIP. I hate that. Happens to me sometimes.
It is a strong start Mary. I'd love to see how it comes out even if you just have to finish it from your imagination.
